New Rumba in Oakland - 2nd, 4th Sat. of every month
Posted: Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:57 pmMaestro Yaya Maldonado and I just met with Olivia, the owner of Sweetie Pie's Soul Food in Oakland.
We've been looking for a venue to host rumbas on alternating weekends, La Pena on the first and third Sunday...
And now, Sweetie Pie's on the Second and Fourth Saturday of each month, 3-7 pm - 53rd and MLK.
We are so blessed to have so many talented people who enjoy keeping this tradition alive in this area! So fortunate!
The event is FREE to all, as are la Pena's rumbas ... so fortunate...
To top it off, Sweetie Pies has a sweet buffet of soul food for a reasonable flat rate, with Anchor Steam on tap!!! yea!!
This is going to be perfect.. and Yaya is very into it, which is key to it's long term success.
We are going to build a modular riser, and the house is going to install a PA... we are almost set.
First Rumba will be May 10th!
