Aloha Mike,

Big Mahalo for the great tip. I emailed them and they replied within a day. It sounds promising by their quick reply. Keeping my fingers crossed :D

BNB,
I was going to bid on that set of three King Congas the other week, but my wife gave me that look  and I had to back off.
I won a King Conga Quinto a while back on eBay, and when it arrived I was surprised that a side plate and tuning lug was missing. All the lugs were worn and bent (which I kinda expected for a drum that old), but the shell, crown and remaining sideplates were in good shape.
The site indicated that they were going to also make replacement hardware for the original drums. I was actually going to have someone fabricate me a side plate, and from the looks of the rest of the hardware, it might be possible to locate them in a store that provides industrial fastners and stainless threads bolts. Someone mentioned in another post that the hardware looked like they might have been also used on boats. Might be another place to look for parts.

On another note, when I took apart the drum, I noticed a 3 by 3 square of sponge foam glued to the inside of the shell wall. Not to sure if they were manufactured in this manner, or if a previous owner placed it there to cut overtones. I thought it was interesting so I'll leave it in when I rebuild it back to somewhere close to its original form.

Keep on Poundin'.... Aloha, maSSivdrums

Yeah that set was pretty good looking.

A friend of mine has a set of King congas, and I see them around at'
this drum circle in berkeley sometimes.

I think the breeze knows a lot about Kings too.

I think they are pretty cool drums, they sound great for fiberglass.

But they are also pretty rare and parts even more so. That link about King Congas coming
back has been up for almost 2 years.

Kind of like how Fat Congas site keeps saying they are going to be making new congas soon.

I also received a quick response from them. It said " We are currently in production and expect to release the first series of drums this Fall along with replacement parts for original drums." I hope they start selling the King Congas again soon.

I know Armando Peraza, the original endorser, has about 10 of them stored away. I had 4 of them, also had 4 Echo Tones. They are good nostalgic congas but limited in sound projection.
My Kings enclosed.

I prefer the echo tones, i had the photo of yours Dario as one of my screen savers for a while, if I was serious about fiberglass congas I'd want those, I became fascinated with them after picking up the willie bobo lp with his on the cover.

Omelenko,

I'm always impressed when you share your collection of drums!! Those King's look to be in great shape!!

I took another look at my King tub and measured the head, whic came out to 10.5 inches. According to the website this is considered a Conga. Earlier I mentioned that it was a Quinto, I stand corrected.

Mike,

I was also forwarded the same news you got from them. I hope that they are true to their word. I remember growing up in the 70's and seeing Papa D. of WAR with his striped King Conga on stage. It had a Phat sound!!!Slippin' into darkness...

Keep on Poundin'.... Aloha, maSSivdrums

Barrie,

This is for you, Echo Tone madness. I also preferred the Echos over the Kings.

Candito, Echo Tones' world ambassador. He still has his original 4 and the most rare of all, an Echo Tone bongo'.
