Has anyone ever tried taking a headfrom a larger drum and mouting it on a smaller drum. I have a killer mule skin that i want to put on a quinto. Its been giveing me some trouble . Ive tried just about everything. is it time to cash it in ?

Go for it! As long as there is still enough skin left over to allow for shrinkage as it dries on the new drum there shouldn't be any problem. Depending on how long the skin was on the old drum there might be some markings or deformations from the bearing edge but it shouldn't affect the sound.

As it happened we took a mule of a Tumba the other day, soaked it to release the hoop and remounted it on a Conga with no problems.
You do need pliers to grip it though

I have posted my technique on how to mount a skin with no problem even if you have very little to work with, just have to read on. The post has drawings and comments from other members who have tried it with success.
