Forums,
I am 1/2 finished with a project to strip the brass electrostatic plating from the aluminum hardware of my first Conga set.
I successfully stripped several pieces, some pieces are partially stripped .I rand out of stripping agent chemicals.
I am unable to find a type of stripping agent to remove this remaining material.
I was told Muriatic Acid is what i need,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muratic_acid I need expert advice on how to strip the remaining material from my hardware, I'm losing my mind not having Conga to play.
Help!!

I am not a chemist but i can tell you that if it's muriatic acid that is needed then it can be purchased at any swimming pool supply store. Muriatic acid is used along with bicarb to control the PH balance in swimming pool water.

Due to the crystal meth situation that is plaguing so much of Canada the U.S you could have a bit of a problem in getting your hands on some. It's one of the ingredients used in manufacturing the compound. It's just another name for hydrochloric acid (HCL). Of course if any swimming pool owner can get their hands on it then you should be able to as well. If it was around here that you were looking to get some they would start asking all kinds of questions and i think they make you sign some form to be able to get it.
It's pretty nasty stuff to work with, that's for sure!

forums,
freinds,
I can get lots of this acid, I need advice on 'usage of it" as not to scar the aluminum, I have no expertise in the use of acids of this type.
Yes swimming pool supply has it, "home depot" two gallons of it for ten bucks, 'very cheap stuff'.
Help with technique please?
God Bless
av

You’re not going to scar the aluminum. Aluminum polishes very easily. If it stains the aluminum buy a fine metal polishing compound (I like to use "MOTHERS" for car rims) and re-polish it. You could also test the chemical in an inconspicuous part and see how the aluminum behaves.
