Here's a great Matthew Smith story I'd like to share. Last Dec. I got an 11 3/4 inch Ritmo from eBay. It was described as being in excellent shape with no cracks, shiny 'chrome', etc. Well, the guy lied. I emailed Matthew and sent pics and he said 100.00 or so, to fix. So, I dropped it off right after Christmas and picked it up a week later. No mo' cracks, a new head (40.00 extra) and nicely polished stainless and a new coat of poly.He also gave me a great deal on a 5 year old 13.5 inch tumba that I love. I told him I was thinking of making some bongo shells and he said he'd check on some hardware he had made. I waited too long on the hardware but called him last week to see if he still had it and he told me no but, I had a 100.00 credit with him! He had talked the eBay seller into sending him 50.00 for me and he matched it for a 100.00 deposit on an 11 inch conga. So the eBay guy that cheated me(he was supposed to send me 100.00 for the repairs) wound up contributing 50.00. At least I got something back! It turns out that the 11 3/4 inch wound up costing as much as a new one, but without a 1 year wait. The new 11 inch had gone up 50.00 but I was so grateful for Matt's intervention. Great drum maker, great business ethics, good player and very good individual! Can't wait to get my new drum. Buck

Great story Buckoh, I remember back when you posted about the 13 inch drum.
A bit of info from Matt after an inquiry I made..
Thanks for checking out my instruments,I am glad you like them.I am currently charging $800.00 for my congas in any of the domestic hardwoods (quarter sawn oak,ash,walnut,cherry,etc...) The exotic imported woods like African Mahogany and Bubinga start at $975.00.Feel free to email or call anytime. Thanks,Matthew (215) 795-2267

Vaya Mis Panas!
Thanks for the great comments and well wishes, I can't wait till they arrive! Tremendo rumbon que se va ser!
As far as the wood, they're African Mahogony (when the cost was still a bit affordable)!
Chacho! I really want to hear the spirit in those drums cuando les doy por encima!
Suave!
