Skin on Skin Question, Jay's Daughter?

Postby Omelenko1 » Tue Sep 16, 2008 10:50 am

I recently bought a Skin on Skin conga and a tumba set. I bought them from a cop that claims he brought them to Miami in 1981, so I'm thinking the drums are from around 1980, they are flat cut oak 12" and 13". At the time Jay was not signing and dating his congas on the inside, I have confirm this from him before, however, inside on some of the staves you find two sets of initials "SB" and "LB" . I think the "B" stands for Bereck, however, don't know about the "S" or the "L". I know his son helped him early on. Maybe his daughter can shed some light on this. Will be posting photos of the conga set soon.

Here are pictures of them, the outter bands have been chrome plated by me. The sound on these is awesome, put a Pan Con Queso on the macho that I bought here in Miami from Carlos Landaeta the son of Pan Con Queso (Bread With Cheese).
