Yeah they look good, but I got a set of oak drums, I do hope someone here jumps on them.
Dave, heres you chance! Would go well with your mahogany Sol's no doubt!

I'm already getting a cherry requinto and now a set of bata from Mario, that's my Isla quota!

I'm thinking of getting these - although I can't afford it :-) Can anybody tell me a little about wood types? Since these are the only oak islas in existence, I'm interested in knowing how this affects the sound of the drums?

I'd like to thank you all in advance, this forum is so full of invaluable knowledge and I feel privileged that you take the time to teach a newbie about these things.

Oak is a great choice for drums, Gon Bops, Skin on Skin, Ritmo, Valje and Resolution all use this wood in their drums.
Oak is a pretty standard wood for drums. Isla uses "canoe" wood and cherry mostly however. These drums would be an
absolute bargain at this price.

Not a good bargain, a great bargain no doubt. I totally agree with BND Oak is definitely a great good for Conga drums. When I went to see Mario I seen these drums in an incomplete state, let me tell you even before they were finished they already looked awesome. You can not go wrong with Islas they are no doubt a great hand crafted, hand made drum. I have no doubt that the person who gets them will be very happy :D
