NO- not pajamas', but congas

They are made by the danish percussion brand 'PJ percussion' and are no longer in production, so when I saw
a set (conga, tumba) for sale I just had to get them.

The special thing about these congas is that they have a thick fiberglass shell (unlike the new LP's) and therefore sounds amazing if you combine them with some quality heads. They're probably the heaviest drums i've ever come by, but as i tend to hear/whitness the heavier drums sounds the best.

Congrats, brother!

PJ congas are a rare find, in Europe you do come across them too often.
They are said to have quality skins as well, especially the older models (PJ wooden congas are also renowned)
Yours look like vintage drums too.
As to the weight & quality issue: That is not necessarily the case, older LP fiberglass congas (Palisades Park)
are lighter but not worse.

Enjoy the PJs as much as you can! BTW the skins look very fine!

Yea, the thing I was talking with my teacher about (user: jochumsen) is that a lot drums has the potential to sound great,
but a lot of times it just comes down to what skins you throw on!

i actually just found a clip a few minutes ago, with lisbeth diers playing with airto and trilok gurtu, where she's playin a set of PJ's. but sadly enough with a LP quinto

At least it matches the PJ congas quite fine.

Tell us, how old are your PJ Fiber congas then?

You know your going to be happy with those . they project how heavy are they ?

You're gonna love those drums! I'm looking forward to hearing them live. To anybody out there: Check out the old pj drums - these is probably from around '85. They are very heavy, about 25 kilo each. Great sound and tone!!

Hi Mike,

I forgot to post it... but I had the drums on a scale a couple of weeks ago and they weigh about
15-16kilo's each. but still pretty heavy to move around

alright, you do not have to lift weights in the gym then..
Those PJs must surely sound fantastic, massively like they are built.
The LP Fiberglass quinto I have just recently restored is also quite heavy
and therefore gives me the ultimate, dry quinto sound I like.
Amazing, hardly any nasty overtones, just a little bit of ringing from the shell.

PJ Congas are really top-quality, i talked to Peter Jacobsen, the guy that builds them (hence the "PJ" name) recently,
and the reason that they don´t build fiberglass congas anymore, is that all the skilled glassfiber experts, are building windmills these days..., makes you think doesn´t it ?, anyway maybe we get great sounding windmills in the future...

PJ wooden congas, especially the "session line", are also very heavy, and sound quite fantastic !
