They are nice drums for sure and the price is still great at this point but people are waaay to liberal with the use of the term 'vintage' these days.

This guys description of the history is not correct, the Valje name was sold to
Haight Ashbury Music before being sold to LP.
I have never heard of Akbar of Sol owning the rights to Valje.

I'm a conga newbie and they looked pretty to me in their price range esp. I thought another newbie might want to pick them up! If I wasn't awaiting the arrival of my Tumbao Pros, I would be thinking more about these!
There's something really appealing about them to me.
I went and looked up Sol Congas after reading the description in eBay. Now they look like works of art to me, and I know I don't even know what a good drum looks like yet!

Well Sol was made here in SF, but now Sol is closed and their maker works for DW Gon Bops.
The Gon Bops are excellent drums, their not really like the original Gon Bops though. The Sol
drums were very special, I still see them around sometimes.

Thanks for informing me. I had Googled Sol Congas and found the link I enclosed above. I must have skipped right over that web page somehow that way.
I am happy to know that there is a Sol - Gon Bops connection. I really can't wait for my set to arrive. I keep practicing beats on any surface I can find.
BTW, I really like your shekere! I know you must have nade it yourself, and it's grand!
