LP Palladium Super Tumba 14" - feedback

Hi congueros y congueras,
Anyone have much experience with playing the LP Palladium Super Tumba 14"?
I have a set of 3 x LP Palladiums (quinto, conga, tumba) but haven't yet had my hands on a super tumba.
BTW I love the Palladiums but the quinto is hardly ever used as I haven't been playing much in the way of rumbas these days.
I play many kinds of music, but this year especially have been playing a lot of salsa, merengue etc but mostly with 2 drums only.

Any feedback appreciated, I would also consider buying a second hand drum.

The Palladium 14" super tumba has a thundering sound. It has a very deep bottom and is a very responsive sound. My friend is selling two 11 3/4 congas and a 14" super tumba. I'm keepin g them in my house until they sell. These Palladiums sound great, I have SOS, Matthew Smith and Junior Tirado. The Palladiums are up there with those when it comes to sound and caftsmanship. Tremendas timbas! Enclosed see a photo of my buddy's set for sale.

I know many don't like the Palladiums but i had a chance to play around with 4 Palladiums and i thought they sounded great. Included in that set as a 14" super tumba and it as a monster indeed with really deep sounds.

I actually had a set of 4 LP Palladiums, two 12.5 tumbas, and two 14" supertumbas. I totally refinished them and then wound up GIVING them away to two very close friends of mine. They actually were TOO heavy to be practical, in my humble opinion. As for the sound, well they did sound great, especially when I put cowhide on them, as opposed to the water buffalo that they came with. I had ordered some skins from Michel of Moperc up in Canada.

I may look into importing one from the U.S.A., as I recently had a quote from a major percussion store here in Australia for a single super tumba and it came out to a ridiculous AUD $1622!
Online in the US I've seen them new for around US$550 or thereabouts (plus freight).
As far as the weight of these drums I've kind of got used to the weight and where possible I use a little trolley to transport them into venues.
As well as that I've taken up lifting weights to give me a bit more muscle since I bought them!
I'll look into it some more, thanks again for your help guys...

Onile those Palladiums look "SICK". I love that finish, are those made of the same wood that they use now? What did you use to get such a nice finish? Im wondering if I redo my CP's will they look the same?

As for the type of wood, bro, all I can say is that they were the HEAVIEST drums I have ever owned. I can't say with authority, but there have been drum makers with whom I spoke with about these drums, and they said that they are made of compressed wood. I just know that when I sanded them down, they looked like wooden staves to me. In any case the finish that I applied was a store bought one, if you look up the thread you'll find out which one it was. Sorry, with old age comes short term memory loss! The truth of the matter though is that, they sounded good before any alterations, and morphed into greater sounding and looking drums after wards.

I even sent a pic of the final product (all 4 lined up in a row) to Martin Cohen, he asked "wow! what type of drums are those?" He was blown away to learn that they were LP Giovanni Palladiums.

I don't regret giving them away, the friends that received them were very much aware of the love and work that went into the transformation of those beautiful drums.

Ok I'll stop. I can't say I've given away something like that before. That's quite amazing. I've never seen Palladiums undergo a makeover like that ... nice work ... but giving them away ... whoa ... I'd say you're karma'd up for a while. You could probably cheat on your taxes and your wife and be protected by drum karma for the next few years.

I'm in love with that make over Onile. They're just awesome. A hundred times better than the original look IMO.

Btw, the Heritage Tycoons have a very similar look to those palladiums....of course, I'm sure the palladiums are in a different league altogether.
