Super Stoked Ritmo's in theHOUSE!!!!

Postby pcastag » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:07 am

Just scored these from SalseroBoricua71 a board member here, he personally refinished these drums and they look amazing! I've played pretty much every high end set out there except for juniors, and lots of cuban drums both here and in havana, for the modern sound these drums are SICK! Totally balanced bass, open tone, tapao, slap etc. just incredible. Believe the hype, it's for real, these drums absolutely rock, and the custom finish on these particular two is incredible! 11.75 and 13. gotta get me a 10.5 and maybe a requinto. BTW you see our little fire place, well we actually fired that sucker up the other day because we had SNOW in HOUSTON! WOO HOO, global warming rocks!

Yes sir, 1996 flat sawn oak as opposed to the quarter sawn oak used today by Matt.

You have been added to my list of hate.

Congatulations. In my opinion I rank Matt Smiths drums as the best in the world. 8)

Is good to see my babies again! The sound of that particular set is SICK in a good way. When I had them they were super nice, but Steven "Van Gohg" (Salsero Boricua) took them to another level of beauty, his refinishing techniques are legendary, the man is very demanding for detail, he probably gave them tubs 15 coats of poly. Them congas are from 1996, the wood is super cured, the sound of the super tumba is like a cannon. It seems like Salsero is really depleting his inventory. Matt is without a doubt the new keeper of the flame, a proud son of Gonzalo Vergara.

Feliz Navidad y Sofrito Na' Ma.

not to take anything away from Michaels incredible drums...which i have also played on and they have a great sound...but after playing my Volcanoes now for awhile...I believe these may be the finest drums ever made, which is of course is my opinion...i have started to lay down the traks for my next CD that will be featuring my Volcanoes, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! what a sound they have in the studio...these drums are gonna jump right out at you on this recording...I will also be doing an Xtra trak called "Volcanic Eruption" featuring these drums of Tom Alexander volcanopercussion.com "JC" Johnny Conga

pcastag congratulations on your new additions, those tambores are awesome.
No sarcasm at all, I own a set of REMOS and am very proud of the hardware they come with, top notch :P although I have learned to appreciate and prefere traditional hardware over modern hardware.

I think I have the conga and requinto from that same set, they took me a while to settle with, I was an avowed valje man, but now I love them, the requinto in particular is amazing, tuned low or high it's very flexible with a nicely broke in dry sounding mule on it. I love the way these drums seem to have a life of their own, I heard another from the same original set of around 6 is now in San Francisco.
