Valje conga question

My Christmas present is an 11.5" Valje conga
which I, respectively Santa Claus acquired second-hand
- it is another vintage grab at a reasonable price...

I wonder if this is really the siam oak it is supposed to be?
The wood pretty much looks like it.

BTW the drum is in great shape, it will make a nice rumba complement
for my Gon Bops. A new head should do nicely.

The production date seems to be 1991 if I read it correctly.

Any info on this model you could provide? You are more than welcome.

I love the shape of the shell ! :D

Nice drum Mike, looks like it's in very good condition.

I think they made 3 versions of LP Valjes in different woods.
Cherry, beech and Siam oak. There was also an Armando Peraza model.

Yes, that is what I have just been reading here too: http://congadr.blogspot.com/2008/05/val ... ution.html
You can see some really nice examples of Valje variety in Tony´s blog.

Well, mine is really almost like new, it has not been played all that much really.
It came with a black & yellow Giovanni Bag as an extra, so I cannot complain at all.

Judging from the pics in Tony´s blog,
the one I have must be siam oak for sure.

Nice score Mike. I have a set of the rubber wood from 1990. They are nice drums, and sound is different the LP classics. Alot lighter in weight.

Try a nice cowhide and its alot better sounding drum.

What was the Santa price?

If he did say no, I'm sure you would have slipped some rum in the milk and cookies to make him think otherwise

BTW I have decided on a mule skin for the Valje.
Michael´s skins from L&H arrived today, they look fantastic,
thickness, texture, all.
