Those are skins on skins, looks like cherry. I can tell from the sideplates. The corners are rounded and the thing the lug passes through is a welded on loop. Also the width of the bands.

No doubt Skin on Skins. I wonder why he woud be shown playing these drums being that he is sponsored by Meinl.

I actually was looking at some pictures on Myspace and found that he played a show with the Santa Barbara Orchestra and he used those drums. Maybe the author who complied the book used a photo from that concert. Thanks to everyone who helped pinpoint the maker of the drums. They sure are beautiful.
