Dont let the two tone wood fool you. Vintage Cuban made by one of the many cuban artisans of the 40"s to 60"s.definitly not Vergara, Requena but cuban non the less.Nice find at any price. :D

Probably made by Candido Requena for Solis Music Store in "La Habana Vieja" (Old Havana). Looks to be from the mid to late 50's. Not a Vergara. Nice quinto. If restored never put a thick head on it. Always keep lugs and hardware properly lubricated. Very nice find for this day and age.

Posters with less than 100 posts seeking info on drums should make a donation to the site imo.

I took a few minutes to shoot some photos to share.
Needs some work, but it is really a nice piece.
The 2nd photo show some nice curl in the darker wood that I think is Mahogany, not sure about the lighter wood.
I would really love to see the wood come back to life and get a nice finish on it, but it is so thin, that sanding might be out...like on King's project.
The alma is so thin, I really can't see it serving any function except for validity of authenticity :)
If and when I do move forward and start to restore this piece, I'm not sure how I will approach the hardware.
I think the steel is zinc or nickel plated. While King's looks great after re-chroming, I'm not convinced this would bring it back to original. A friend of mine suggested a heating and chemical process that would give it a natural dark patina which would then be oiled or waxed....but then again, not original. I suppose a cheap zinc or nickel plating job would be closer to original, but it would seen a shame to go that route. Anyhow, enjoy!

A pretty trashy looking drum I would never consider buying.

Thats a real nice comment. Aren't you the same guy who said you would buy that drum from EL ( the cuban tackhead that was totally falling apart) and fix it up yourself if the price was lower? That drum to me looks pretty rare and pretty nice, what in your opinion makes it trasy looking? BTW the lighter wood looks a lot like beech, can't verify that but I have a lot of beech drums (sonor ) and the wood is very similar.
