Hello guys!

After a years of boosting courage, money and knowledge, I decided and bought myself a mule skins at L&H percussion. First drum i reskinned is tumba. I soaked it a bit too long as Michael post it to me (only 6 hours) , i did it for 8 hours, the water was a bit oily. I hope that won't make too much damage. I'll rub it with a shea butter when it's dry...

It was a morning project, excited, nervous and anticipating. I hope i didn't f... up and the drying will be ok.

That's the first I've heard about any specific amount of time that a skin should be soaked. Usually just put them in overnight and pull them out when the time comes. Except for goat, which is usually ready in hours.

when you get a chance let me know if the mule's helped improve the sound of your Meinls, I am thinking about mule for my marathon classics.
BTW they look great with the mule skin mounted!!!!!!!

Thank you guys for the advices and further encouragement. Yes, I'm very pleased with the look of my tumba, even though it has nothing to do with the sound of drum. It looks like this skin was made for this drum, colourly it goes very well, freakin' well if i'm frank

Michael told me that he put those kind of skins on other Meinls (maybe the same, i don't know) and they sounded great. Rack56, you'll know, don't worry. Haven't heard a drum with a mule skin that sounded bad. If you have old marathons (15 years and more, you are lucky man, quinto from that Meinl era was a ''smooth-talker'' and nice drum to play when I started.

Looks like it's not going to be a piece of cake...
I have discovered that i wasn't careful enough and it happened that when i was puting on skin with the rim, i checked the distance from top of the rim to the lug (everywhere the same length), but i haven't seen that the rim with the skin is not centered on the drum shell (one side 2 cm, oppositte 3,5 cm). I made a picture in paintshop (where brown is drumshell and playing surface, outer ring is a rim) to make an example.

I need help what to, cause i don't think it will be ok.
My mcqayver thinking is telling me to wait the skin to dry and then remove it from the drum shell, pour some warm water inside the skin, wait and try to center it when it's soft enough...
What do you think?

Get a drum stick and a screwdriver, but the stick under the screwdriver and use the screwdriver as a lever to move the rim in the right position. I've done this with my own drums. Do it now while it's wet.

On another note, learned a trick from an old drum store owner in Chicago, he used to have a cuban guy tuck all the congas that came through his shop, once he tucked the skin he would set the drum head side down ( upside down) on a pice of plastic ( usually use a trashbag) and let it sit over night, that way the doubled over part underneath thehoop and collar dries first and the head stayed wet, then you can turn the drum over and allow the head to dry, this avoids any slippage on the collar while drying and allows the head to dry more evenly. It's a great trick.

A good one! I'll try it... My mule is drying and in the morning i loosened the lugs a bit, cause it got really hard and tensed. I think that advise with drying first the tucked part is really good one.

Yes Sped, i also think like that, it has a presence, i can hear it...

Here it is!
I soaked the mule skin for conga for 5 hours and a half and here is the result!
I gave a try to pcastag tip and turned my conga around. I'll keep it that way till the evening or tommorow morning.

Next one is Quinto. I hope I won't make it too high (the rim)...

My Woodcrafts are mulled, I played tumba and conga 1 hour ago, cause quinto is still drying, and geeez I'm one happy conguero They sound so good, it's nothing i can compare to congas i played so far. I also managed to reskin the Lp aspire quinto that we have in a band, with old tumba water buffalo skin and it's drying well and I think the sound will be better.
I can hardly wait till thursday when I'll play all three together.
So far I can really say that those skins are really good and boosts your drums sound level or two higher.

are they heavy ? they are very nice man , enjoy.
