Got mine with this set.....all drums have been repaired,restored......waiting for skins
Could someone tell me,looking at the older Gon bops literature....they show the tumba xl 13 1/4" as their largest drum....was the 2xl a special order only?

Beautiful set! They sure didn't make, or sell, many of them. I remember one that I saw in a music shop years ago that sat there for a long time. I think that, in the day, they were a novelty and hard to sell. Now, of course, they are a treasure.

Curious about the repair you did to the big one. I can't tell from the picture. Did you fill, or shim, the cracks? I have an XL staring at me - asking to be fixed. It has a 1/4' top to bottom crack that someone else repaired with epoxy years ago that has reopened. I'm thinking that if I clean out the old epoxy, glue it, and do the rope trick, I'm going to be chasing new cracks. The best thing would be to take it all apart and re-glue it but I can't do that. Looking for a fix.

Rope,glue...straps...whatever it takes to draw the cracks together....do a couple at a time. I wouldn't fill the cracks. I would get the epoxy out first, then draw that bad boy together....its well worth it

Go to my facebook group " Congas,Bongos,Timbales and Afro latin Drums " I have original catalogs and prices from Gon Bops 2 generations before being sold as Timba drums But I do not have the Molinari era catalog which was the best era of Gon Bops w/ some design improvements. Also have the last of Valje's catalog w/ John Santos on the cover made hust befor Vaje burned down :( Byw...I had 3 of the same oak GB's from 1973. I sold them as I was going broke durring community Coll. days. DANG !
