Thanks PC,

I have an old Slingerland King Conga that is pictured in that brochure. It is beat up a bit but I am thinking of of clear coating it to preserve that worn look. I also have the funky 8" X 11" bongos also King Conga. This brocure is nice to have along with this old stuff.

I am really interested with the development of congas over time. It is interesting what was accepted as a conga that really did not validly recreate the instrument in the US.

I have adapted a 12" Fiberskyn with duct tape muffling on the underside for another Slingerland conga of simalar design ($40 for the shell). The resulting sound was remarkably simalar to a 20" surdo! With the lightweight shell anddeep bass even though it is not a true conga it has it's place as a modified insrument.

Keep it fun,

Jerry

Ernesto,

You are right with the Desi comment. :D

These never were true congas. The adaptation I made would be well suited for Batucada Samba or Street Candombe style play. The shell is light weight (not correct shape for Candombe) and the tone is perfect. The shell does resemble a Samba Rebolo drum in all aspects after changing the head. A REMO Bahia bass head would be perfect for the shell.

Keep it fun,

Jerry
