So is this overtone effect specific to this one particular drum?...because afterall, all wood stave drums are different in tiny ways. The very next Matador drum which follows that one off the assembly line might not exhibit an overtone like that...because there is 18 milligrams more (or less) glue, or the wood grain on 3 staves is slightly tighter...or the inside diameter measures 1/16" different ?

Or, is this overtone effect present on all Matador drums of that size and build due to the cumulative mechanics of the components and design? In other words, was LP negligent in design testing their product before putting it into production?

What would a t-shirt or other baffle do to the desired tone/warmth/sound quality of the drum?

I have tried this method and it is great. Congalou has a method that is much like this but this string method is somuch easier.

The overtones are canceled without comprimising the fundamental tone of the conga. If this is a concern then give it a try. This is only for shell overtones though. Head overtones need to be dampened to be dealt with.
