I've never tried this nor do I think I have the coordination to use it but the "Hansenfutz System" seem like it would be quick enough. I see that they sell it here www.latinrhythmtraders.com/html/bells.html. I hope this helps a little.

many thanks this is better than I'd hoped for. I thought it would have to be a standard kitdrummers pedal but this looks light and is fairly priced too!

I bought the Hansenfus system thinking it would be light weight and better than the Gajate pedal by LP.
By the time you add the stick, It turned out to be very expensive.
The LP Gajate pedal works dor me much better, the Hansenfus is too light and moves around.
Even when I use different floor pads, it isn't practical.

Additionally the Hansenfus mechanism doesn't strike hard enough.
You have to really bear down hard, so it requires more work.
The spring adjustment with the Gajate allows you to not have to work so hard.
For me, the Gajate pedal is far superior, the Hansenfus did not work for foot clave.

So you feel the LP is responsive enough? It all seems a little bulky but I should be able to try one out at a musicstore first.

I also use a bracket similar to the LP Gajate. If you do a search I think you can find it somewhere, I use a wood block for a more clave like sound and I attach it with a wood block bracket to the Gajate bracket. Mike is right, pedal movement is a big issue since you aren't attached to a big bass drum or anything.

Using a kit foot pedal also gives you several options in beaters, to get the right volume and sound.

Yeah try it out if you can, maybe it will be fine for you.
The spring tension padel using the gajate setup allowed me to set the resistance I wanted.
The hansenfuts has only one resistance and it just didn't work for me.
Like BnB I use a wood block (Pearl Ash) and really like the clave sound I get with it.

I'll try and post a pic of my set up later today. I used an old vintage foot pedal from Eaby I got for like $10 and bought the bracket at the local music store.

You can use just about any pedal, i put Velcro on the bottom side of the pedal and maybe a small piece of carpet. ( carpet sample ) so that it doesn't move anywhere.

The Meinl Pedal Mount (PM-1) is very good, very sturdy,
It will not budge due to the rubber plus spikes at the bottom.

I use it with an old TAMA foot pedal to play a red LP jam block.

These guys have some pretty interesting looking kit, especially their foot drum. Pricey though.

Latin Rhythm Traders has a foot pedal that could work really well. The Hansenfutz System is a foot pedal with a striker that hits an item on the ground.

First drill your striker to adapt to the Hansenfutz.

Second cut a short piece of Unistut then foam pipe insulation at both ends. Mount this unistrut to a wider backing like a rubber stair tread that is long enough for the Hansenfutz.

Third play the clave by the Hansenfutz that is on top of the stair tread and in striking distance of the clave.

Thanks for all the ideas, sounds like we could all compete for one man band of the year!. I espesially like the foot pedal from footdrums- this is the best bet I reckon, and $85 isn't that bad. Well done Chupacabra!

Just a side thought: Why left foot clave at all?
I play clave with my right foot most often, the pedal between
two congas, and if I feel like adding some backbeat on ´2´ and ´4´,
my left foot plays a little hi hat.
