One shining example is in the classic Pink Floyd song "Time", you can hear the octobans being played by drummist 8) Nick Mason during the instrumental lead up before the singing begins.

I don't know of any percussionist/drummist in the Latin or AfroCuban scene who has played these. It's a lot of extra kit to carry around!

Simon Phillips also uses these drum's He even at one point had some hooked up to some foot pedal's but wasn't worth it.
