Greetings Gentlemen,
Fernando Faria here, my first post. My son has been playing drums for a couple of years now. Lately he has been showing interest in playing congas. On a recent trip to our local music store, we looked at a couple of brands they had on display. Being a longtime woodworker and avid turner, I wasn't too impressed with the quality of these drums. My main area of concern was that the inside was totally not finished. Since I am actually considering building his congas, I have a couple of questions. I intend on turning and finishing the inside so it has the same finished look of the outside. Would doing this improve the sound quality? Sound waves would reflect off the finished surface and not be absorbed by the unfinished wood and irregular glue lines resulting in overtones. I think sound quality is the most important factor. Which wood do you gentlement think is best for a sharp, clean sound?
thank you very much.
