New Heads

I am replacing the heads on my Meinl Pro drums and have almost decided to use Remo's NuSkyn heads. Now, the question is will there be a lot of difference between them and the original water buffalo heads that came on them. I really wanted to use primo mule skins, but was afraid that I would mess them up trying to put them on. I think that nice drums like these deserve nice heads. Thank you for your input.

Where is the best place to buy Remo Nuskyns and Fiberskins. I'm sure I'll have to special order them wherever I buy them as Meinls are a different size than most other drums.

Hello TorpedoTom!

You check on remos web page
http://issuu.com/remopercussion/docs/remo_drumhead_catalog_2011/1

on 32 page you have the specifications for Meinl profesionals.
On my woodcrafts I have L&H mule skins, I like them a lot, but i'm not playing a lot of them, cause my pearls fiberglass with remo fiberskyn are better heard with the projects i'm in now. But when playing with choir or nice ambiental setting or recording, the mule is the sound.

I like remo fiberskyns with tucked head, cause crimplock failed me once, and i don't want to be fooled again. About uskyn: I played them once on Matador fiberglas and I liked the sound very much, but the friend who had them wasn't so pleased with them, he said that they don't project much, which I haven't noticed, it is said that they have more traditional sound, less overtones, but to me they sounded great, Actually I'm thinking to buy them for my woodcrafts, just to have them and try them.

If you are scared to mount a mule on your Meinl proffesionals, let me tell you, that my friend has old model of woodcrafts and new proffesionals, all with mule skins, and they just blast away. I remember how did they sound with water buffalo skin and when he came to my place with mules... I had to get myself the same... Just to empower you to loose the fear of doing it yourself. I was anxious too, but people here help you all the way!

Hola PimpS, Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I've talked with Issac a few times about mules, but just never pulled the trigger on a set of them. I drive a big truck and am gone a month at a time and am home only a couple of days and gone again, but that is about to change. When it does and I have more time at home, I may try to mount a set of mules.
