Here is a photo of an early 70's huge Gon Bops tumba that I refurbished. It was painted black with superficial scratches and it had a couple of splits at the bottom. Repaired the splits with TiteBond 3 glue, the one that Matthew recommends, and sanded it down and applied 3 coats of varnish. Hope you enjoy.

Is this the 13 1/4" or 14 1/4" Mahagony Gon Bops? Looks very nice.

I've got a similar tumba, late 60's, with a top to bottom crack I've been looking at for a long time. I just know if I titebond and rope it it will crack somewhere else. "One of these days" I'm going to try a shim.

You did a great refurb job with yours. To my ears, no others sound better.
