Don't know, looks interesting though, except for the cracks.

Well, just bought it. It's a little over 30 inches tall, has 7 lugs. The guy who I bought it from said his friend brought it back with him from Africa. No markings on it that I see. Some splits and out of round. Project!

Look like Delaporte hardware (French congas maker).

Yes, the sideplates look like DP, but not the rest of the drum...
But I cannot really tell from the photo.

Yes Congalou, I figured the same thing (Delaporte). I asked Mike for a pic. Mike was kind enough to send me a pic of the hardware up close. It definately looks like Delaporte hardware to me. The bands were painted gold at one time. Very heavy lug bolts too (7).
Appreciate the pic Mike.

Thanks, Madlatin

The wood looks like it could be oak.

Getting ready to start the project of bringing this drum back to life. After removing the bands and hardwarefrom the drum, I thought it was going to fall to pieces but, there was only one crack that went all the way down from top to bottom. The top of thr drum is out of round though. I searched the forum, and did not find any fixes for it (May have missed them). If there is a fix it for this problem. The guy I bought it from is a woodworker and said it was oak. I'm open for help and suggestions on restoration project.

Thanks, Madlatin

Search again, out of round has been discussed many, many times with several approaches.

Matt Smith is your answer. He would make that conga look new. Time factor is the issue, it will be awhile before you get it back.

Nice project drum. I would say 95% certain it's Delaporte.

Titebond III and some good straps should do the job.
Out of round: Cut a wood dowel to the size of the inside diameter and place it there,
wedged inside the shell while you are doing the glueing business.

Different to King Conga, I still do not believe it is a Delaporte conga (or maybe a very early one?).
Just take a look at the ears of the crown, they are fixed by screws: not usual for Delaportes AFAIK.

Anyways, if the hardware is still strong, Madlatin, the better!
With an oak shell, you will have quite a sturdy drum, provided that you are able to solve the crack issues.

GOOD LUCK!
