Snare stands with Pearl Travel Congas

I'm still considering getting some Pearl Travel Congas and I've been looking at snare stands. The problem I have is that the majority seem to be a bit shorter than standard conga height (when at maximum extension). I calculated the top of the travel congas would sit at about 75cm above the floor which is a good 20 cms lower than my congas.

I play seated so I suppose I could just sit on a lower chair.

Has anyone had a problem with the height using snare drum stands with these congas?

Cheers,
Rob

I recommend that you buy the stand system designed for the Pearl Travel Congas.

I tried snare stands and they wobbled a lot while playing.

They worked for me [snare stands]. I did actually buy an old wood chair and saw a few inches off the legs. Also a bungee cord to hold the drums together helped the wobble [foam strip ie: weather stripping in the side of one of the rims keeps them from rubbing/banging together]. Finally playing them on carpet [or a piece of carpet keeps the sliding down].

Of course the pearl stands are no doubt better ... but snares work and are inexpensive.

Cheers

Thanks very much guys. I'm actually being offered a couple of second hand reasonable quality snare stands so I might give them a go...

I got a pair of travel congas today second hand (conga and tumba) with a pair of snare stands (Tama and Pearl). I have to say that I'm blown away by the tone of these things. The tumba sounds better than my pearl elite full size conga!

The stands seem sturdy enough to me too. The whole package cost me £360 second hand. I was hoping to get them for £300 but the guy drove a hard bargain. I'd been waiting for some of these to come up second hand for 6 months so I decided to take them. Really pleased with them! :D

Wow! I found that to be rather high for used but I checked out some UK online music stores and I have to say you 'blokes' pay a lot more then we do in North America!

Even if its a tad higher than you wanted to pay, the one thing I noticed about the travel congas is that they hold their value [probabily has something to do with the fact folks like them and they don't come up that often].

Enjoy them [of course you already are].

Yeah it was about the price the 2 drum heads would have cost me new but with the good quality snare stands thrown in as well it made it just about worth it.

I loved getting them really finely tuned and getting a really clear major key note out of them. The guy who sold me them had the tumba tuned up to something like quinto pitch for some reason :|

Search for concert snare drum stands. They are made for the standing percussionist.
