I own examples of all of these in congas. In bongos I have only Valje and Resolution. I find the Valje and Resolution congas to be better quality than Gon Bops, both vintage and new. Soundwise I also prefer Valje and Resolution over original Gon Bops, however the modern Gon Bop by Akbar does sound just as nice. I enjoy owning examples of all these drums as a part of California Conga history. They all get regularly played.

I have had through the years both Valje congas and bongos and Gon Bops congas and bongos. Valje congas always sounded better than did Gon Bops. Gon Bops bongos sound real good as does Valje. Recentlly I got a set of vintage Valje from Lou Vega and they sound awesome. I also got me a set of vintage early 70's Gon Bops congas, I got the super tumba, the quinto and conga are in transit. Here are photos of my California collection through the years and present day.
