The man I bought this drum from could not say what the maker was -- only that he bought it in '75. It is fiberglass, and In the picture he posted, I thought that it could be an Echotone. I do not think that this is the case anymore and could use your collective expertise. Who made this? Some details:
This is a "top-tuning" drum. The thin head (calf?) is sewn to a combination rim/flesh hoop that the bolts go through. I don't think the paint job is original. It is very lightweight and one of the side plates has been replaced -- poorly -- with an odd part.
This drum sounds as funky as it looks. It was functioning as a tumba alongside a cracked wood Gon Bops conga (also from '75, also painted black) and complemented it nicely. Definitely a more "folkloric" tone than my LP Classic. Didn't think it was possible with fiberglass.
I got both drums for a song and just want to try and identify this as I plan what next to do with it (besides PLAY it).
