Nice find!
I'm in Japan right now and I have a new mission: Try to find a music store that sells them, or better yet, try and find a local rep here in Osaka!

Yamaha is a smart music group with great product lines.
If this is a hybrid of Mountain Rhythm or another line's drums, it is probably their way of entering the conga market to test the water.
If they stay, they will soon develop their own line of congas and watch out!
They have a way of developing and making the most practical, best-sounding instruments in the world and gaining market share rapidly.
Their acoustical engineering, study, emulation and practical, ergonomic designs are second to none.
Looking forward to seeing this and hope it's true.

Leedy do you have a link or other info besides a photo?

Agree with Congamyk. I've played vintage Steinway pianos and Gibson guitars. Yamaha top-end pianos and guitars sound just as good. When it comes to musical instruments, they know what they are doing.

The quinto looks like it's made of real mahogany. Nice. Now that you mention it, their shape looks like an exact match of the Mountain Rhythm model. I guess that brand is not favoured by members here?

Not related to Congas - I inherited an old Yamaha tuner and amp and pair of speakers from my older brother when I was in my early and mid-20's and they were some of the best sounding stereo components I've ever owned. I blew the speakers pretty quick because they were not made for Deep Purple/Black Sabbath/Led Zeppelin etc. but the cabinets were made so nicely that I decided to put new cones in and kept them going for years. Ahhh... nostalgia!

Yamaha has definitely made some great products over the years, I am anxious to see where they go with their new addition!

Kool looking drums they seem to be mahogany. I know you can order mountain rhythm drums in one of the music stores in my neck of the wood. Now you have Yamaha distributing the drums and I bet that is going to jack-up the prices on them drums.

Yamaha will buy them out and change the hardware. Since Yamaha has a vast amount of information on there hand's ( They utilize all of there tech's from music to motorcycle's) And they have a great reputation in the music school industry. Yeah i don't like the rim's either but to have a conga made out of purple-heart would be nice!

Very interesting !!!

I like Yamaha drums since a long time, I actually have a maple custom 22" 12" 16", and it works well.
To my mind, top of the line of Yamaha is super good.

This congas look nice, but I personnaly don't like this kind of rims. I have to try this drums, I hope we will have some in France.

Congalou.

I played the Mountain's at Russo's in Trenton, nice looking, very well made, nice mahagony wood, Hardware was gold and non traditional, skins ok, very heavy, sounded very good even with fair skins. They were too expensive when I could have brought Matthew Smith drums for about the same.

That shape is very nice, resembling Gon Bops for sure.
The hardware looks kina weak.
One thing is for sure, those drums would look very, very inviting with traditional, old school hardware :D .
