So Cuco -
Are you saying that these drums are same quality as Matadors? You said they were "suped-up" matadors and as far as I know, "suped-up" means better.
I looked at the pictures on the Ebay ad for these drums. They have one standing next to the Giovanni drums for contrast. When you look closely at the picture, you will see that the hardware looks hefty compared to the hardware shown on the ad with Marcelino Guerra.
Maybe it's just me. But check it out and let me know if you see the same as I do.
Now, as far as "matador" quality - are these drum equal?

What kind of wood are they using? Or is just the finish.

Mine neither!
All those conga beauties considered that most of us discuss here or even own,
it is rather a shame that even several threads are wasted on those crappy drums....

LP is just going back to the basic drum with no frills look from way back back in the day.
Yes they do resemble SOS. That kind of raw looking drum probably does not cost a lot to
be made and probably will be offered at a low price. Not everybody can afford professional
grade drums and they got to do with what they can afford. I think companies like LP and
Gon Bops have realized that on this economy they will not sell as many professional grade
drums as they used to so they have to offer a lower level drum at a lower price. I remember
people back home in Puerto Rico that began playing on empty coffee cans because they could
not afford the real deal.

LP returns to a old school looks with its new Rumba line, which is complete with decorative outer bands and traditional rims. This new line is a good choice for students, beginners, and aspiring musicians or the more experienced player who wants a visually attractive set of back up drums at a very low price. The new Rumba line drums are currently offered at low introductory prices. So act now on these deals, which are particularly advantageous when two congas are bought with the matching bongos and stands. Rumba line products are a great gift choice for your young percussionist without breaking your budget! Compare these new Rumba congas and bongos to LP's other beginner lines like Aspire and Caliente, and we think you'll fall in love with these very affordable drums with attractive old school traditional looks!
Ok ... the gig is up ... I wrote that. Why is everybody hating on this new product? They're not. They're hating on the hype in the advertising. The claims being made about this new product line look out of line with the product quality. If the advertising read like my introduction above, we'd all have probably slept through this.
Cheers!
BMac

I wouldnt mind having them as a set of beater drums for the rum fuelled rumbas etc we have. Id have the quinto, tres golpes & tumba.
The bongo, stand etc dont interest me in the slightest. They look weak, entry level.
