Hello everyone,
I'm brand new to this great site and have a question some Meinl Congas I just
purchased used.
13" Tumba "Live Sound" Series Made in Germany
12" Conga "Live Sound" Series Made in Thailand
11" Quinto "Live Sound Series" Made in Thailand
The guy said they were wood but I think they're all fiberglass? The insides have a textured
coating and I can't see any evidence of staves. Anyway I can't find ANY info on this series online and am wondering:
approximately when were they made? Are they considered beginner,intermediate...crap maybe?
They're Black with a metal band and they have a handle that's attached/cast to the rims.
Thanks ya'll for any info.
Happy New Year!!

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the link to the thread concerning Meinl Live Sound Series Congas.
Mine are indeed fiberglass and are 11,12 and 13 inches respectively.
They came with rubber rings around the base and three nice wooden Meinl
platters. The math works out at 66.00 bucks per drum paid [200 bucks for everything].
Anyone know around when this series came and went?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi there,
Meinl live sound series (fiberglass and wood) were made in 80's - after 1983 for sure - probably around 1985 when Nippy Noya cooperated with Meinl. Informations are based on my german Meinl catalogue. The problem is that there is no date of printing on this cataloque! But in catalogue there are Meinl woodcraft which where developed in 1983 and company adress is "WEST GERMANY" so before 1989. I don't know when ended. My friend has live sound series rubber wood and made in thailand.
Live sound series were made in 4 sizes (10,11,12,13 inch)
Two variants of hardware (classic and "floatune-like")
Fiberglass was in two collors (white and black - yours)
Good deal and interesting find
Vic

Thank You Victorious for all your info, I really appreciate it.
These tubs were for sale on Craigslist here in Portland Oregon for at least
2 months, priced originally at 250.00 for all three. I thought for sure, since no one
was buying them, that there was something wrong with them. When the guy dropped
them to 200.00 plus the platters, I figured I'd give it a go.
Being a novice drummer, I'm very happy with them and look forward to the day when I
can pass them on to someone else for what I paid. I think, in the name of harmony and
non-greed, these drums came to me for next to nothing and should be passed on
for next to nothing.
Striving For Peace,
Tim
