Hi congueros
I need some help because I would correct the egg shape of an very old Valje 10" quinto.
I thought to wet a little bit the wood and put on a round circle and force a step by step towards regular round, but I am afraid that wet can open staves and create more problem than I have now.
I would correct this problem before put on a new skin.
What is the best way to get back to a round shape without damage the drum ?
It is possible?

It follows some pics of how I correct the egg shape.
First I wet the inner side of the tube 3 or 4 times for 2 days and after I put around the drum the very strong ring of LP Galaxy that it is impossible to bend.
Now I wait August and after I will see the result.

hi slowly slowly is probably the right approach with a stave drum.I have done solid wood drums by heating a cauldron with a big industrial gas burner underneath and steaming the drum by holding over the top of the cauldron for about 1 hour and then bending it back into place with clamps like how you are doing it, when it is correctly shaped again i put an inner almer inside and for about 3 months I put a tension rod going across the middle to keep it from wanting to go back to being egg shaped.This has worked on 3 drums so far.with the stave drum you might have to do some re gluing around the top of the staves.your way might not force them back completely as the steaming really gets the wood malleable to bend, wetting it, I am not so sure.
But Good luck the drum is worth saving.
