What do you guys think about this? A new skin from L&H and this could be a new life long friend.

Not a big fan of the mexican drums, probably made of pine, not too much sound out of those, but what the hey, for 50 bucks can't go wrong, by the time you put a new skin on you'll be in 100 though. Seen better drums for 100 bucks.

Congarranza..... I looked at the ad and the seller states no cracks , so that's good. The head appears to be in round from the one picture, so that's good. I know that there are some drums out there that might be made of pine like pcastag states but I don't think that this is one of them. Some of those Mexican drums were actually made from pretty good wood. Someone else on the Forum (ponceno48 ) restored a Mexican Drum and used JCR hardware on it. It turned out really nice, but I do not see the pictures that he posted any more.

I would say that if you are local, it would be worth the look, and would make a nice little project. If you are not local, than shipping would be anywhere from 50 dollars or more, plus a new head, so now you are looking at 150 to 200 dollars for your project. That's not too bad, considering that I myself have spent way more than that on projects that were spur of the moment and left me with some regrets, but for this drum you are looking at, I would say go for it if you are in the mood for a nice little project.

Since that post I bought a GB mariano quinto which had a good skin, but I replaced it with an L&H skin and recycled the good skin on the old Mexican - it sounds even better.
But as you see in the post - mine had some nice LP hardware put on at some point in its life [and I got it for $40 - plus shipping]

Maybe see if they'll take an offer?
