Nice!

I own a set of three. Am not sure if the smallest is a quinto or a requinto.

consciousnist wrote:would love to check out your Munz & Simonsen drums.

Once Kai Simonsen loaned me a set, which I have to give him back soon. Maybe we can meet and visit his workshop in Uelzen together.

Mike wrote:even including little language errors like "of your own" instead of "on your own".
Well, like you I am German, and like you I make mistakes as I am not a native speaker.

:!: This is why I asked back. But to be honest I had the impression that this wording - in combination with the rigid (in my perception a little bit dictatoric) statement "Everything has been said" - could have been choosen intentionally.

Mike wrote:And if you do not like the sound of my Woodcrafts - I have no problems with that.

I just didn´t like the term "deteriorating" as it devalues my (usually night-time) efforts.

I don´t know how your Woodcrafts sound. Neither the clips nor your affirmations communicated a convincing impression of the new skins´ real quality - IMO. From what I perceived I would have preferred the original skins (just from comparing your own clips). This confused me - but I know about the problems of recording. Finally I detected advertisements that you wanted to sell your Woodcrafts. - ! ? - In consideration of the fact that it was you who started this thread about the Woodcrafts´ quality, it could have been very interesting to read more about your decisive weightings in comparison with your Gon Bops and Delaportes.

I know that my view on instruments is sometimes rather special. Final conclusions like "everything is a matter of taste" do not satisfy me (upset me in fact) - I am really sorry about this. But it is my opinion that forums (in contrast to more popular social networks) should be places for details and complexification, not for familiar generalizations. Maybe I am wrong.

In the moment I have only the set, which Kai gave me for the Friends´Area. I fetched it in 2009. This - quinto, conga, tumba - will return to him, because the conditions here in Kiel have generally changed. A few years ago I visited Kai in order to build a tumba with his help. It is just of same appearance and quality as normal M&S congas. I just choosed the thickest skin Kai had at that time.

I don´t find photos of the set. But here is a clip with it, which I made on a little jazz festival in Pinneberg in 2011:

I found an older Munz & Simonsen thread here at congaplace. Maybe we should move our conversation to: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6895&p=68007&hilit=munz+%26+simonsen#p68007

About to become 5 old school Woodcrafts, an old friend interstate has offered to sell me his matching 12.5" Tumba which he has owned since new. As soon as he gets a replacement Tumba, he will send it my way. :D

@ Abakua

I found an advertisement from someone in my town: http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/s ... ref=search

The price is definitely too high. With the included bags he could get around 600-650 Euros for both, I guess. If you are interested I could contact the owner and try to get a better price.

Hi consciousnist, yes of course Ive used them, I gig 2 -3 times a week, and have been using the Woodcrafts for all gigs lately.
I also recorded with them, here is a preview from the recording, we were listening after a take, just rhythm section, vocal is only there as a guide as we recorded bass, piano, drums/timbal, congas live in the one room.
I am using woodcraft conga x 1 and 2 x tumba in this recording: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151806860344468&set=vb.632879467&type=3

Marcelo,
very nice playing indeed. 8)
As I said: those Woodcrafts have an incredible sound,
they have so much power.

By the way I replaced the old and shabby-looking sideplate bolts with the exposed heads
of my old-skool Woodcraft with counter-sunk stainless steel ones,
which I find aesthetically more pleasing. That was a little fun project
on a rainy afternoon.

Now I like the way my 3 babies look like.

I might get rid of the rubber beneath the sideplates though.
Well, there is another rainy day coming along...

Nice tumbadoras, but too pricey indeed, Jan.

Anyway, after a Saturday of torrential rain I am done now,
the sideplates of my three Woodcrafts now all look the same.
