Thanks RR, I would love to try the LP Cradle, but the price is too much for me at the present time. I am getting a set of Gon Bops conga raiser; hope it does the drum justice.

In the early '90s Michel made Mopercs out of Brazilian Mahogany, before the eventual ban on using that particular wood.

Honduran mahogany, just like junior. My buddy has a complete set, best drums I've played on other than some caoba sonocs.

BTY, I got bad news, I called Michel to ask for a price quote for another African Mahogany drum. He said he "won't be making anymore drums out of Mahogany". He said that he recently tried to make a set for someone, while spinning, it exploded into like eight pieces. He said that is the third time that happen with Mahogany, he will not be taking that chance again. So, anyone who has Moperc Mahogany drums, you now have a collectors item.

Those are some very promising drums!! I am very curious to hear a comparison between them and his current ash, and even better, some of his previous maple as well!

Can you please give me the link, I couldn't find it. I don't understand why he would tell something and turn around to do something else. He seems to be a good guy, there is something off.

Just a theory - the FB page says it's a custom job - maybe those were the ones that flew apart while being made and he decided to not use it again.

I can probably dig something up, I have a casette tape of me taking a lesson with Michal Spiro on them somewhere, Spiro said they were the best sounding congas he ever played.

For what it's worth I once had a Matt Smith Honduran and African mahogany, the honduran sounded much better, wider tuning range, better eq'd sound. Loved it. The ultimate best sounding drum I've ever played was a well used caoba sonoc with a fairly thin head. I think the caribbean mahogany, whether it be from Honduras, Belize, Cuba, PR or Santo Domingo ( hispanola) is the best sounding wood for congas.
