3 of my 4 Manito solid shell/one piece Red Ambrosia Maple Congas with traditional cuban style hardware arrived. Still waiting patiently for the big tumba tomorrow. These drums are way nicer then I expected and even more beautiful in person! Anyway, drummer Jeff Holland was in town (he is percussionist at the Berkeley Rep theatre) so we had a little jam session with two other Manito slightly older congas we had, a Poplar Tumba with cow skin and an Ambrosia Sycamore quinto with steer skin. Both of these drums had the strap style hardware which I must admit is slowly growing on me! This video has the camel skin requinto. You can hear it cutting through everything.

Hi K.C.,
Thanks for the congrats! The drums are surprisingly light, except for the segundo which is about the same as a LP classic conga. I have not put them on the scale yet, though. I will and post. Manito did tell me the requinto is 21 lbs. For comparison, my djembe that I wear playing standing up is 24lbs! The LP "Gio" requinto is 26lbs. The thickness averages out to 5/8ths of an inch.

I agree with you 100%! I did have to wait a little bit, not like for most companies but there is a small wait. I am super excited about these drums as you can see!

He really pays attention to all the details, large and small. And to me they not only look great but the sound is fantastic as well :)
Here are a few more photos and another video I made fooling around on my new drums:

Here is a new video I made using high quality relatively inexpensive ribbon mic's. I think the sound is much better then previously versions.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jXnm5S4d7U

Mr. Rumba,

I know you've been told, but let me reiterate how valuable to all of us your posted "tests" and "sound samples" are. They stand as a true resource expanding our knowledge and love of exquisite drum craftsmanship.

Hello Conga Tick,
Thank you so much for the props and positive feedback! Very much appreciated and really glad you and others are enjoying them!
Here is my latest video. It is the new Manito Percussion tumba that arrived yesterday and the conga (just 2 drums). Please check out the pronounced bass tone!

Very nice! That camel has a warm tone and appears to be very responsive.

Can you repost the link for this one? It appears the wrong item was pasted. Thanks for the good vibes!
