VR PERCUSSIONI - Italian Masterpiece Mahogany Congas

Postby Espresso » Sun May 18, 2014 10:12 pm

Hi people
I hope someone still visit this forum because I would share this my new score of this FANTASTIC set of hand made congas VR PERCUSSIONI.
This brand was from an italian craftsman Vincenzo Ridolfi that built this set in 1996.
Pictures speaks by themselves , these congas are made " come Dio comanda " ( like God command ), simply AWESOME!!!!!!
I own several brand of vintage hand made congas , but these are really on the top.

Congratulations Espresso, nice looking set.
That Jr is the Bomb!
This is probably the first set of drums that I see that have this type of bands, adjustable, which are obviously easier to manufacture than the typicall bands.
So, above all, how is the sound on these babies? how is the quality of the hardware?
Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure they sound great! Love mahogany congas - wood probably from Africa.

No surprise. Italy has been producing fine musical instruments well before Columbus "discovered" the Americas.

Dear rumberos , thank Youuuuu
I'll try to reply to all:
Size of drums are cm 27 , 30 , 33 , plates like picture are 3 mm thick , wood is 25 mm thick.
You understand that with this thick of wood these drum are heavy so may be truoblesome to carry around, but on the other side You have a steady drum.
One curious think about the hooks: these are composed of two pieces welded together and chromed , the screw is 10mm diameter and the hook 8 mm diameter.
This is really an artesanal solution to provide strong and durable screws and thin hooks.
I add a picture of the skin but I am not able to say what kind is.
The sound is from a Senior drum , bright clear tone , crispy slap , good projection, no overtone.
I think VR Percussioni is out of business since several years and I am not able to tell how reach Mr. Ridolfi; I got this set used.

Saludos
