I hope that you are all well and in an abundance of wonderful holiday blessings!

I am on "Boogalu Productions" mailing list, and I recently received information on a new DVD, "Pi-Mozamibi-Son", it sounded interesting so I ordered it. I was not dissappointed in the least my brothers! Let me clarify however, that it is not an 'instructional' DVD, but rather an entertainment one. It features Chaguito y Sus Timberos! Chaguito is the former musical director of "Clave Y Guaguanco." He also features other musicians, one of which is conguero Tomas “El Panga” Ramos, who plays a couple of great solos on a couple of numbers. Also, Chaguito plays 'cencerro' on one number, and gives a couple of sweet riffs on the bell!

As the title implies, Chaguito took three rythms and blended them together, the bongocero plays a "son" pattern (martillo), the conguero plays a "mozambique" pattern, and the timbalero plays a "pilon" pattern on the same number. Chacho! it sounds slammin" brothers!

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good percussion.

Well if it's anything like "Rumbambeo" it's worth it...which is really cool too...though "Rumbon TropicaL" AND "The festival de Tambores with "Los Ibeyis,Jr. are still my favorites...."JC" Johnny Conga....

Looks great - I gotta get me one of those!

On that link, during the section with the trumpeter, the bongosero seems to be playing a pattern to go with Mozambique. I've never seen/heard a Mozambique bongo pattern before. Anyone shed any light on this?

Chago is great man.Studied and partied with him a few times in Havana.Great to see him getting lots of attention.He deserves it.He is also a great teacher.Boogalu will hook up anyone who wants with him.As far as bongo in mozambique i know Pello el afrokan used bongo in his smaller bands latter in his career.I think they played Martillo.

The bongocero is actually playing "martillo", that's the 'Son' percussional contribution to the hybrid rhythm being played. The conguero, Tomas “El Panga” Ramos is playing a pretty simple yet tasty mozambique rhythm, and the timbalero plays a 'pilon' rhythm and together they really sound great. The groove is actually moving, coupled with the funky coro which accentuates the name of the rhythm "Pi-Mozambi-Son".

Check it out, the rest of the DVD is hot! Esto esta goddemit mi brotherlito!

Que Bola Onile! si, todo bien.

Sorry man, but Chaguito ain't playing martillo! (I'm talking about the short section of the online sample where he's jamming with the trumpet solo). It looks/sounds to me pretty much like this (the main accents anyway):

So sort of reflecting the second part of some styles of Mozambique. Whatever, it sounds great anyway!

Ooooops! I thought you were referring to the Pi-mozambi-son number, that's the martillo pattern, but the one you've described is certainly like what you show above.

Disculpa mi equivocacion! In fact, the section that you are talking about is called "Tremendo Descargon", Chago takes an incredible solo en bongo, y despues "Panga" on conga, and then the timbalero. Esta cabron este disco pana! Te lo digo!

Either way, it's a cookin' DVD my brother!
