It's never to late to start! You may feel that you're behind since you've blown off some valuable learning time since you've been to Cuba so many times.
Your lack of drive to learn before is the classic response of a teenager to their heritage or ethnic roots when they've been exposed to the "modern" world.
Not saying you're a teenager, but just saying we have a tendency to look elsewhere and not notice those gems our own culture has for us when we get that age.
Learn EVERYTHING you can before you go next time, Maybe some lessons with JC :;): and then be prepared to forget all of it once you step into a teacher's house.
Learn it the way they do it, and only show them "how you do it" if they ask.
Then blow everyone away with your new chops when you get back!
