I am trying to find a teacher in the Greater Lawrence area. I have tried Craig's List, local music stores, even the local "Drums Only" store. Nada. If any one knows any one who lives in my general area who would like to show me some of the basics please let me know!

Hi Mr. Grumpy,

Marcus Santos was my teacher of Brazilian style conga drumming (atabaques and candomble rhythms) when I lived in Boston. Here's his website:

Reynaldo Gonzalez teaches Afro Cuban dance, drumming, and singing in Cambridge, MA. He was a lead dancer with Afrocuba de Matanzas. If you are interested in bata, rumba, Arara, Brikamo, want to learn the real deal (songs & dance not just drumming), and can get to Cambridge, I would recommend him. Although he is primarily a dancer, he plays bata, is a "rumbero completo" and can certainly teach you the basics of folkloric drumming on congas or bata. He teaches at the Dance Complex in Cambridge and his contact information is on AfroCubaWeb at:
