Sounds like a god idea. How about those who constantly fight, insult, name call and violate the conguero brotherhood be banned too?

It is vital for the brotherhood to be nurtured. There are many knowledgeable people who read only because they have become weary of the petty bickering and insults.

I would not suggest a heavy handed policy here but perhaps a warning, probation and then banned policy might be a possibility. There are too many intellegent and experienced individuals that are not willing to share any more due to a few knuckleheads. If someone is definately way out of line then there maybe some special cases that lead straight to being banned.

This is an additional suggestion, those who have paid their dues should be given their respect and a bit more lieniency in this department. Some may think this is not fair but that's life and we need to show the appropriate respect where ever it is due. We are all deserving of a level of mutual respect.

Unfortunately this site has gotten out of hand on some topics. It is not worth someone getting hurt. If this continues, this possibly could happen or worse.

If this banning policy occurs then its should be posted as a warning on the homepage and board index.

I do not wish to see any musician kicked off, but the commnication and level of respect needs to be mitigated and in time it will heal. If this becomes a greater brotherhood there is no limit to what we can accomplish collectively.

Respectfully submitted,

Jerry

Agreed with most of that jerry . But whats paying your dues ? and why should someone who has so called paid his dues get more leniency than anyone else .Should be a level playing field on here and everyone should be straight with other . Ive been on here a long time and there have only ever been 2 people that caused any crap , one of them has recently vowed not to post any more and low and behold there has been no more arguments .You all know what im talking about folks .

...when someone is being band it's because individuals on this forum, in emails, have expressed 'banning' someone..This is a 'group decision' depending on the email amounts making such a request..Now we have been 'hit' in the past few days ..and as a moderator it's a pain in the ass, having to deal with it...We have all been guilty(including me) of saying the wrong things that may offend or upset somebody here...but in the end it as Niall says boil down to RESPECT towards one another AND THIS Forum...also there are levels of banning from an hour to permanent....this is not my site, it is Congamans site...I am just a humble servant here for the rest of my brothers and sisters here...I can step down as a Moderator if the Forum decides for me to be replaced...and someone else can give it a shot for awhile...JC

I understand what you mean about paying your dues (sounds arbitrary). I served a 5 year construction apprenticeship and I learned a great deal about paying your dues this way. Also, I was a young (early 20's) suburban member of a seasoned Afro-Cuban group in Chicago back in the 90's (it was a humbling experience most of the band members were between 30's and 50's). There were occasional double standards but I took it like a man because I wanted to learn from these seasoned cats. There is no free pass for absolute poor behavior though regardless who it maybe.

I understand that this sounds like a double standard but sometimes these seasoned older cats can be a bit rough. Often these seasoned players are right but they might not be polically correct. I would not handle myself in this manner but I understand why it may occur occasionally.

I would like to see a fair standard but unfortunately the world is not fair and I am OK with that. I have control of only one thing and that is myself. We need to remember this and treat others wit the appropriate respect. Sometimes it is appropriate to show additional respect to the "Master Congueros", I am not one of this club but there are several master players here. It is also good to encourage younger players to promote future growth. I am somewhere in the middle here.

Lets keep it cival and fun,

Jerry

Nial,

My comment was not meant to be used as an excuse for poor behavior. There is no place for abuse both public and private.

Generally those who are the most abusive also have the thinnist skin.

Lets promote our brothers and sisters.

This is a great forum! And, I think I'm thick-skinned enough to sift through the crap and insults and take away the good stuff. I'm only really offended by right-wingers and religious crazies but I can ignore that stuff too. Over the years I've quit a couple of other boards but only because the mods got too heavy-handed with some of the members who offended them. When they did that - they shut down the communication and the boards went bad. Sure, there has been some bad stuff here but really, not that bad. Sure, cut out the spam and those who want to sell crap but we should be mature enough to sort out the rest without the mods having to step in.

Good point. I would hate to see a gotcha situation develop. We do not need more cops. We need more freedom to communicate in a respectful manner.
