Bad news from Barry Cox's Vamos ¡Va guarachar!, as Gregório"El Goyo" Hernández has passed away.

This is a huge loss. El Goyo has made many great contributions to the rumba, from his excellent recordings to his generosity in sharing information about Afrocuban music to his helping organize and run many rumba and folkloric groups in Cuba. I never had the chance to meet him, although I have learned a great deal from his recordings on CDs La Rumba es Cubana, Rapsodia Rumbera, Aniversario (Tata Guines), Oba Ilu, Tribute to Tio Tom (Puntilla) and his many clips on YouTube (thanks mostly to Barry Cox). Today is a very sad day. RIP Goyo, QEPD, Ibae.
