Vaya Raymond,

Yes,I had the same thought, for me 3 are too many Bongos in the house. The 3A Bongó sound is good, now, been a solid piece, somebody who is a wood worker craftman told me that the stave one behave better during temperature changes than the solid type.Need to do some research on that.

Making a Bongo Bell at JCR - video clip - Apr. 20

Dear friends,
Caly Rivera (Mr. JCR) was just featured on
NY1, a local cable news channel.
It was shot this past saturday afternoon
at his workshop. They shot 1.5 hrs!
but will only run this little clip.

Caly demonstrates making a bell
and mounting a bongo head.

My hands are shown playing a conga
with a new mule skin.

Maelopr,

The drums you attached resemble the Pearl Elite series keep looking through the mercado libre you can find some pretty good maracas & cajons I have even seen @ one time some HR El Piernas Bongo & the 3A that Caballoballo mentioned I think if I remeber correctly the 3A Bongo were like a till green..

Neftali,

Don't know of what is going on in the Ponce, south, Fajardo, east, areas in regards to club. However, these are the places to check out if you want to see "salsa bands" live.

Wednesday nights- El Criollo - Guaynabo - (Is in Martinez Nadal before you get to Guaynabo ). On Wednesday, they have salsa nights. They have some house bands like Guarachando, and Son de Madre (see below) and ocassionally, they have a good bandk, i.e., Sonora, Willie Rosario, etc, on special nights like Fridays or holidays.

Thursday nights - Shots, Isla Verde (End of Ave at the Denny's Shopping Center) - Here the "house band" is Son de Madre that is an "all-star band" that plays covers...Sammy Velez, Tonito Vazquez, Ricky Rodriguez, Angel Garcia, etc, etc, play here...Always packed.

Friday nights - Pool Place (Calle Recinto Sur - Old San Juan - Next to Dona Fela Parking) - This place has normally a very good band playing (Example: Last night Tommy Olivencia, Sonora, Gilberto, Ralphy Leavit, etc, etc, play here...One different band all the time).

Jackelops - This place is located at the entrance of the back of the airport in San Juan, entrance of Muniz Air Base area, in the area of the Burger King. This place is "managed" by the former DJ of the Habana Club. This is after hour just like Habana. Fridays and Saturdays. They don't promote themselves that much but they have a good band once in a while.

Nino's Cafe - Bayamon - They have bands once in a while.

Palo 11 - Matadero area in the Roosevelt Ave in Hato Rey. They used to have bands on Fridays but all of the sudden has quiet down. (Don't know if it is that they do not advertise...Caboballo works at this place as a DJ).

The best thing to know what is going on is to listen to Z-93, the salsa radio station, 93.7 in the dial, to see what is going on. Some "festivals" at the end of the month in Ponce due to the "justas universitarias."

I hope this helps!

Saludos
Raymond

After reading this thread and others, I recently got a low-pitched JCR bell from Isaac. I could not be more pleased.
