BONGO CUBANO 10 LUGS - Hand made by Señor Vega

Forum fully dedicated to the instrument

Hand made bongo' Cubano (10 lugs) Cuban Cahoba wood. Macho 6 3/4", hembra 8 1/2". Made out of Cuban Cahoba. Made in the 70's by Sr. Vega. After leaving Cuba, Vega moved to L. A. where he made a few (less than 10) of these. West coast luminaires like Rolito Soto
(Papa' Bongo'), Michito and Luis Conte have a Vega bongo'. I have 2 pairs that I bought. Will trade one for a unique "one of a kind" pair. This bongo is the best sounding in my collection and I have Vergara, Skin on Skin, Junior Tirado, Requena, JCR and Charlie Vega. If there is a Pan Con Queso or and Ismael out there we can talk. You will never find another Vega Cubano.
Sonerito, suena tu bongo' . Dario

State of the art Bongó,bet their sound is beautiful, the only problem that 5 lugs per shell has is that is kind of unconfortable for the seated player. I have play with the ones made by Ismael Timba and that is their problem.

Vaya Caballon, Que Vuelta !

Unlike the Ismael, of wich I had a set stolen at a gig in Calle 8 Carnival many moons ago, these Vegas don't weigh as much, actually they are fairly light and confortable on the knees. The macho being 6 3/4 and having 5 lugs, projects an incredible high pitched sound when you strike it. Caballo you know what I have, these Vegas sound like no others.

Caballoballo,
Have you tried loosening the lugs and rotating the whole bottom rim/lugs/top rim/skin assembly so the lugs are in the most comfortable place for your knees? This works great for 4 lug bongos, it should work almost as well for 5 lug bongos. I find the most comfortable setup is with the lug right in the crook of the knee, so it is not pressing on the hamstring muscle or the calf.

Man Dario, esos bongos estan cabrones, have to say you are blessed with an incredible collection of drums (of course, they're your self-reward for your hard work)...speaking of 10 key bongos... here's another pair:

Just got to say, that between you and that Robert Felcher, you guys must own about half of the collectable drums in the US!! :p

Pa'alante, Dario!

Yeah fletcher always have something unique to show or sale but he wants and arm or an eye for the item (big bucks) for instance he was selling and Edison Pasterizo Bongó,asking so much, he got that Bongó from Ivan Caceres widow, she only wanted $175. Know what I mean ? Not to show, yes to play.

Both of my giging Bongos go to dance every other gig, next gig on the 10 of march I take El Piernas,on the 14 I take the Moperc and so on. The Valje dance every rehearsal.

Jorge, I only played that Bongó for a while.
