Question on Supercussion bongos - Has anyone heard of them?

Forum fully dedicated to the instrument

Postby Mike » Fri Oct 26, 2007 6:05 pm

I have come across the brand name "Supercussion" and I never heard of it. The bongos look close to the older LP design, especially their bottom rims. They might be on the mid-range price level up to 150 EURO. Probably they´re a Dutch production- I don´t know.
I´m just being curious (again ;-)
Any experience or idea to share out there?
Who can shed some light on this kind of bongos?

Mike, I couldn't find those on ebay. Do you have a link? I did see these. They were on Craig's list last week at 150.00 USD

Buckoh,
here´s the (German) ebay link:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws....&ih=014

But it doesn´t say much on the bongos itself.

Thanks anyway. BTW the bongos you mention look quite OK!

Now there´s some light to shed on Supercussion and also its founder, Alberto De Hond:

Take a look @

After all those promising bits of information on this page
http://www.latinartiesten.nl/Intervi....nd.html

as well as this statement by Martin Cohen:
Johnny Pacheco, a Dominican accordion player who became mostly identified
with the Cuban band styles of charanga and conjunto, was extremely helpful to
me in my career. He provided me with the prototype bongo that I copied in 1962.
Later on he provided me with the proper dimensions for a tambora and later on
gave me the name of a distributor in Holland that enabled me to begin selling into
Europe. It was this same distributor, Alberto De Hond, that participated with me in
bringing the first Latin Percussion Jazz Ensemble to Europe in 1979. I feel very
indebted to Pacheco

I finally bought the Supercussion Bongos at ebay. They resemble the early LPs indeed.
Well, I´ll let you know what the bongos are like as soon as I´ve got them.

Mike
