LP bongos , wood construction and production dates

Postby pcastag » Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:29 pm

I've got a set of bongos I bought new in 84 or 85, they're definitely New Jersey models, anybody know what kind of wood? Oak for sure, and I'm assuming north american oak, were the new jersey drums all made out of North American Oak or were they using Siam oak before they shifted production overseas?

Hard to get a completely straight answer because there was a long transition period when some stuff was made overseas, and sent to NJ to be finished. Lots of LP bongos & congas with a Garfield, NJ tag was made overseas of rubberwood. The "made in Thailand" tag came later. Many different woods were used on the PP models.
