You guys are totally wrong and off base. Skinslapper never asked for help, not even one time. You have not read the thread correctly. Read the thread again, and pay attention. You are confusing Skinslapper with the original poster Doc Washboard.

OK - I re-read the whole thing. You are right, he didn't ask for help and help not seen as help is no help at all. He says that putting lots of washers on the lugs, re-wetting the skin for initial tuning, and using one lug setting as a guide works for him. OK - good. But, that is not a good guide for others, especially newbies, maybe some oldies, here to learn. Leedy2, in his usual way, but giving correct information in my opinion, pointed out some of the problems with that.

Heads mounted correctly last longer, and sound better. Lugs do strip when you put un-needed washers on them. Tightening one lug unevenly in the beginning can lead to the problems the OP was reporting. Good advice - but only if you want it.

Does any of this small stuff really matter? It does to me and I have learned a lot of small, and some big, stuff here. I also love the story that was told here of Mongo cranking down hard on just one lug to get the tuning he wanted. But - I ain't him!

Cant you guys read ???

As hard as it is for some people ; More ways lead to Rome !!!
This is more a tunnel vision problem !

And i slightly rewet the RIM !!!!

Lots of washers give you the most use on the threads of your lugs (And i use lube on them ) . And dont change your tone .

Aw F#ck wy wast my time . seedy 2 your pathetic !

What I personally have done is slightly wet the skin to get an exact fit ... if it was hanging around or was on another drum . On the mouth of the drum I will put some wax so the skin slides as it is tuned...On the extra washers you can add more at the beginning, but that adds weight to the Bongo. You can do that but as the lug strips ,( which shouldn't happen but it does ) you add a washer or 2 where it striped. And on the tuning.. you can do both , criss- cross or around , just keep on eye on the head and make sure they are even pulls all around.
Peace

I ve never had a lug stripped before . But i use these things that hold the lug straight (distancers ?) i dont know the english word for them !
And Yes it helps to (con)form the skin over the mouth . My reason to do so to!

As for weight , i mostley play with stands . If i play between the knees i am used to the extra weight .
