Many times over the years I have come across Matadors and other mass produce brands Bongos, their factory skins are only good to hold nuts and bolts.Some times they are paper thin. The only thing I save from them is the metal hoop. Those factory skins will not reproduce good sound. So how can a stock Matador will be just fine ?

I've seen those "expert village videos". That's why I searched out a forum where I could separate fact from fiction. I like this site !

I checked out the videos linked for me. VERY GOOD ! That's the kind of thing I was looking for.

As of now, with nothing to compare my Matadors to, I know nothing about heads. I did read through some of the old threads. Seems like many people have many opinions. For now I'll use the stock heads. Probably the more educated I become, the more selective I'll get.

My first set after playing congas for years. Worked for me for a couple of years until I replaced the macho with an LP hand picked. The hembra is still the original. A couple of months ago I bought a new Gon Bops California series and have relegated the Matadors to living in the car. I think about getting something nice to put on them from L&H but then I would probably not want to keep them in the car anymore.

So, I have some time to kill and I go to the nearest park for an hour and play my Matadors and the amount of time that I spend wishing I had different heads on them is...














...0.

So yes. Just fine.

I think that sometimes blind listening tests would be interesting.
