Meinl Nino Heads?

Postby insertcoin » Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:23 am

Hi everybody!

Im beginner bongo owner and love my instrument. Unfortunetly I broke the head of the bigger drum of my bongos and trying to buy a new one on inetrnet.
I have Millenium - MB202H NT bongos, so really the cheapest ones u can get. The size is 7,5" and 6,5". So I found a head with the size i need (Meinl, Head-Nino3-75, Bongohead for Nino 3 and Nino 17 Bongos, 7,5", included Logo) What Im wondering is, does it fit on my bongo aswell, becouse it says its for Nino3 and Nino 17. Does it matter that I have a so called traditional ring and these Ninos have a curved ring. And allso can someone comment on these Meinl -Ninos in general. They are a bit more expensive then my original heads..does it allready give some more quality to the sound or is it irrelevant on this prizescale?

Anyhow, I would apreciate Your help since Im from eastern Eureope theres not much people to ask these qustions here:)

Best of drummin....

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I really hope I'm wrong but don't be suprized if there isn't someone who can answer this specific question. I never heard of this brand before and looking them up on the internet they seem to be mostly available in Europe. The odds are long that anyone has experiance with this brand and as you pointed out ... "so really the cheapest ones u can get"

Folks on this forum tend to be into the more high end stuff.

You might get an answer in the Italian forum.

As always the simple but scary solution [if you've never done it before] is to mount your own skin. Its really, really not that hard for bongos and even easier with traditional rims.

Good luck!

Nino is the kids series by Meinl. http://meinlpercussion.com/dealers/
They are produced rather cheap, and like Millenium, which is the low-end kind of bongo that is good for a campfire,
and I mean in a campfire
For only a little more $ you get so much more in quality, so I´d say buying a new
skin would not really be worth the time and effort!

P.S.: Here´s what I found in a German percussion forum on that bongó http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_mb202h_wr_bongos.htm:
http://www.musiker-board.de/percussion- ... ongos.html
The opinions there on this bongo set are more or less the same:
Due to the odd size and the low level of craftmanship, the Millenium bongó would not really be worth
reskinning.

Hi again!

Thank you all for the reality check:D

Funny, but after all you said about my good for nothing bongos, I still love to play them and still am gonna get new heads for them-found ones for that model that were, surprise surprise very cheap.

But you are all right. And some day I will have a quality set as well:)

Thank You all for Your help.
