Alternative information:
Baqueteo is a stick technique on top of the drum that employs the rim click (cross stick) position of the left hand, which also serves to muffle and open the drum head while the right hand stick plays regular strokes and/or rim shots in various positions of the drum head. This technique duplicates the sound variability of a hand drum and is prominently used on the timbales in the style of Danzón, or whenever hand drums (bongos, congas) are not carrying the lead drum sound in the percussion section.
