chiringo,

I agree with caballoballo, bongosnotbombs and Mike. It's an open forum and a free country.

With all due respect to you and others who share your opinion, if you don't want people to say negative about something (as long as it's true or based on one's best opinion and not malicious,) then don't post or show it in a public forum, such as congaboard, or a public venue, such as Craigslist.

That's not what happened here.
Juancho asked if someone here scored the Craigslist bongó.
Chiringo posted, yes it was he and offered a trade.
Then Caballoballo noted that Chiringo had already relisted them on eBay at more than twice the Craigslist price and made a quality comment.

So while a thicker skin might better serve both Chiringo and his bongó, he didn't set himself up for criticism. Seems to me like a sharp eye for a bargain and skill at reselling are qualities we usually admire in here. I suggest shaking hands and moving on.

Cuquito, I do understant, it is his bussines but, to sell it for twice the amount ? In this forum everybody know already the reputation on JCRs, how they buy and refurbish, you have posted about it, so, Don't you think the price is high for an improve works of someone else. One as a potential buyer need and have the right to know what to look for when buying an instrument, what is good and what not. Anybody else may have seen the picture on ebay and may have commented about it. My only comment was that the skin was too thin I did not said anything else.

Dario,

Choky Lopez already had his father Tommy Lopez a very experience player by his side, why would he need another mentor ?
Next time I see Pablito Rosario around, I would ask him about . He is sometimes at gigs where I frequently go.

Have you seen the documentary about Musica Latina on PBS or Nat Geo ? On the Documentary there are interviews by Willie Colon and Johnny Pacheco, they do not mention your friend as responsible for bringing Lavoe in to Willies Band. I encourage you to see that documentary.

Also, why was José Mangual Willies Bongocero for many recordings plus giging ? what about because establish musicians considered Willie as a kid with bad sound and may be Pacheco told him to improve his rhytm section . I mean, El malo recording as well as the hustler and guisando did not really sound too good in terms of clave.

Next, I got this information from Willie Colon web page.

In the 60s, Hector spent much of his time touring the Latin music scene. He was able to meet, mingle with, and befriend those in the business like musicians, singers, composers, arrangers, promoters, club owners, etc. Hector began playing with bands in New York like Kako and his All Stars. He later met and worked for two weeks with the great Dominican bandleader, Johnny Pacheco introduced Hector Lavoe to a young, up-and-coming bandleader named Willie Colon. Willie was playing Latin jazz and boogaloo. The established musicians of the time considered Willie a kid with a bad sound. Pacheco was getting ready to have Colon record his first albumn for the Fania label. Willie who was looking for a lead singer liked Hector’s clear voice, impeccable enunciation and stylistic abilities. In addition, Hector had an enormous talent for improvisation. That introduction led to a very successful musical union–one that was nearly instantaneous.

Not looking to offend anyone, this are just facts.

Mira Caballo. I was always instructed to respect people that were there before and helped pave the way for the rest. When you see Pablito next time asking him about Mario y Matin Galagarza, also ask Chuky and Nicky Marrero about them. Son Boricuas just like you are. Mario came before Mangual Jr. and Milton Cardona and played with the best like Kako, Orlando Marin, Richie and Bobby, etc. It was him that brought Hector to the group, ask Pablito, he will tell you.
JCR bongos are much better quality than any bongo' coming from Colombia and Cali has been in the business for over 40 years and respected throughout the world. Your initial comment sounded very sarcastic in that "he already double the price", so what. He got a super price and now he is selling them for what they are worth. You got bongos that were mine and I let you have them with the best intentions and in the spirit of brotherhood, (Cuba y Puerto Rico islas hermanas). Some of your comments through time have been somewhat disrespectful and arrogant. Giovanni, the best percussionist in the planet is very humble, that's his best attribute. La gauperia no esta en nada, mulato!

To me no big deal. Freedom of speech. Opinions were expressed some people agree others disagree, that's normal. Move-on that life goes on no matter what.

Dario ,your friend Mario was the one who started calling me Supercaballoballo and making fun. You defended him by saying

. Isn't that disrespectful to forum members ? many of us play in different bands and also play different types of music and you know that. Then I am the one disrespectfull and arrogant. I may be rude sometimes but in reallity I am sweet as honey.

Leedy, No, I can't have another Bongó, My closet is already full. I may ask my Lady to let me use part of her closet but I may get a typical look  from her

Anyway, se acabó la discusion al menos de parte mia. Declaremos la batalla por terminada. Juana tiene ñeque Juana está salá. :P

The JCR Bongos typically go for just under $400 to $450 as of last year.... So no one was getting "gouged",
quite the opposite since material costs inevitably rise.
The cost of quality steel is not going to go down in price...it's a traded commodity that fluctuates,
just like gold or oil. So as we quibble about artisan made
instruments, they may be a once in lifetime opportunity for many individuals.
